Antibiotics and Two Sick Days

Well, it's official. According to Dr. Wilson, I not only have a severe sinus infection, but I also have bronchitis. He says it's not too serious and he perscribed a two week stint on a sulfur antibiotic. He also told me not to go to work today OR tomorrow, because I am highly contagious and I don't want to expose the babies at work to this crud. So, I am forced to relax, which is good, because that's the only way that I will relax...if a doctor tells me that I have to.
So, here I sit on my couch with my kittens, Riley and Seamus, my glass full of Gatorade, Kleenex, a wastebasket in which to put said Kleenex, and my bowl of chicken tortellini soup.
Here's to antibiotics and sick days.
Peace from the Midwest.

Other Things That Are NOT Awesome...

...include: sinus infections and O'Hare International Airport.
I am currently suffering from a painful sinus infection. The crud has also spread into my lungs. I am planning a visit to Dr. Wilson's office tomorrow where he will tell me to relax and take antibiotics and I will laugh and say, "Relax...yeah, right...what's that, again?"
Also, my dislike for Chicago's airport has deepened. I think everybody runs around that place with their heads up their butts. I mean, really, I'm not a pilot or a flight attendant or anything, but shouldn't you put the luggage on the plane BEFORE it's cleared for take off? And who schedules THREE planes to park at the same gate at the same time? And, for the love of God, why does United split their planes up and park the arriving flights approximately 5 miles from the connecting flights? We were a half an hour late flying into Madison last night, which made our ride back to the homestead have to wait for us and the lateness seriously cut into my Sleepy Time.
On the bright side of things, Jeff and I had a wonderful holiday back east with our families. We were unable to go to Jamestown to see my brother and his family, due to the weather conditions, but we split our time between Sodus and York with our parents. We only wish we could have stayed longer. Both my mama and Judy fed us very well and it was so nice to spend time with our families. We really do miss seeing them.
So, we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Take care and stay healthy.
Peace from the Midwest.

Insomnia Is NOT Awesome

Hey, Everybody-
Here I sit...not sleeping. So, I worked a 14 hour day and I should be ready to sleep, right? Apparently NOT, because I am wide a-freakin' wake. I bet you're all sleeping right now (especially my friends and family on the East Coast)...can I get some of that? Please...really, I'll even take shared sleep (if there is such a thing) because it has GOT to be better than this.
So, let me take you on an insomniac's journey through Hell and illustrate for you the evolution of my insomnia.
Usually, I fall asleep relatively quickly. Then I wake up at 3:00 or 4:00 am and stare at the ceiling. Tonight, however, my insomnia has evolved into NOT FALLING ASLEEP AT ALL. I guess I should have been grateful for those four or five hours that I had been getting.
Well, I guess I'm at least being productive during the wee hours. I am actually making a Christmas gift for my Mama. Yes...you can stop laughing now...I said "making". I guess insomnia makes you all domestic and stuff. It also makes you think about stuff like: What color light is on the bottom of a stoplight - red or green? How many curves are on the average paperclip? Who is that stupid seventh dwarf that nobody can remember? Who thinks of this crap? Me, that's who. To quote the great George Costanza, "Don't you ever get down on your hands and knees and thank God that you know me and have access to my dementia?" You know you do...come on, admit it...you're doing it right now.
Anyway, I guess I'll round out my night with finishing my Mama's Christmas gift and then lay down for a few hours of Ceiling Staring. Maybe I'll watch some infomercials...I love the one with the Mini Chopper. I can watch that one over and over. My favorite part is when they chop up real concrete. Go Mini Chopper...you tell that concrete who's boss.
That's enough of my insomnia-induced insanity. I hope you're all sleeping well.
Peace from the Midwest, D
P.S. The answers to the above questions, in no particular order, are: "Bashful", "Green", and "Three". You do the math...logic...whatever...

The Best Birthday Present Ever

Riding in My New Saddle Posted by Hello
Jeff clinched the Husband of the Year Award last night by presenting me with a new saddle for my birthday. I am so psyched! I wanted a new lightweight saddle for when I ride my older horse, Miami (pictured above), and for when I break my younger horse, Chester, under saddle. Jeff and I took it for a test drive tonight. It was very comfortable and we plan on logging many miles in it on the trails. Thanks, Jeff. You rock!

They Say It's My Birthday...

OK...OK...Enough with the peer pressure, Ryan. You actually expect a girl to blog on her birthday? Well, OK, then...here goes.
It is my birthday. I am blogging that it is my birthday because I am getting old and I want to share it with the world.
Seriously, Jeff and I will be celebrating with an Italian dinner out and then a movie. Since I've seen all of the Jude Law movies that are out right now, I may have to settle for seeing "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events". While Jude Law is not actually IN this movie, he is the narrator of the story and, because it is a children's movie, he probably won't be strutting around in just a towel.
Oh, well. You can't have everything...even on your birthday.
Peace from the Midwest.

Jude Law Fest 2004

The past few months have been good ones for Jude Law. He has released a couple hundred movies, and, this past weekend, I was lucky enough to see two of them.
Jeff and I snuck in to see "Alfie" back in November, and, I have to say, I would have enjoyed watching just as much on mute. It was OK (Jude Law in a towel wasn't a bad thing, for sure), but highly predictable and highly disgusting to watch so many women with low self-esteem swoon over Alfie the Playa'.
However, on Saturday, Jude redeemed himself. Jeff and I caught a 7:15 showing of "I Heart Huckabees". While Jude's attempt at an American accent was laced with hints of England, the movie itself was absolutely excellent...funny, quirky, and original. Lily Tomlin was hilarious, Dustin Hoffman was brilliant, and Jude Law was, well, I'll just say it, Jude Law was hot. His acting was good, too. This movie was probably the best I've seen this year. We're sure we're going to buy it when it comes out on DVD. We highly recommend it.
Because I was on a Jude Law binge, I decided to go and see "Closer", even though Julia Roberts usually annoys me. I have to say that Natalie Portman out-acted every one else in this movie a thousand times over (Jude Law included...it pains me to admit it, but, hey, it's the truth). While this movie provided two hours of Sunday afternoon entertainment, can you say severe Potty Mouth?! I've never heard the F-Bomb dropped so much in all my life...and I work with criminals. While there was enough swearing to go around, I have to say that it worked for the movie. I couldn't help but feel sorry for the characters and be ashamed of them at the same time. "Closer" illustrated the elaborate and blurry boundaries of the human relationship. The film was alright, but was no match for "I Heart Huckabees".
So, thus concludes the Jude Law Fest 2004 movie review. Remember, this is NOT my day job...obviously. If you want to see a phenomenal film, try and catch "I Heart Huckabees" before it's gone from the theatres. If you want to play a new drinking game in which you take a shot every time Julia or Natalie drop the F-Bomb, see "Closer" (make sure you stock up on the booze and start early...it'll be a long night). If you want to see a cute Brit in nothing but a towel, rent "Alfie" and watch it on mute. You can bet I'm gonna.
Peace from the Midwest (where it's very cold and, clearly, there is nothing productive to do), D

A New Post

OK...so I haven't posted in a while. Jeff and I have been running around like crazy to get things settled before we leave for the holidays, but, alas, there has been nothing too exciting happening here.
Anyway, Jude Law is on Oprah today, and it would be a bad thing miss People's Sexiest Man Alive (I whole-heartedly agree, by the way), so I will make this boring post a short, boring post. I promise that, if anything fun happens this weekend, I'll post again soon.

A Side Note in Regard to Martha Stewart...and Then I'm Going to Bed...I Promise

OK, so, isn't Martha Stewart in JAIL?
So, why, in God's name, does she still get to haunt, annoy, and, oddly, spark our holiday decorative spirit, through her K-Mart Christmas commercials? Martha, while your Favorite Things theme inspires me and I do own a set of your bedsheets, I beg you, please leave us alone. I will never serve baked apples or decorate my Christmas tree in driftwood collected from the shores of Nantucket. Trust me. Think of your time "away" as a break...for you AND us. Anyway, for what it's worth...Merry Christmas, Martha.

Christmas Came Early This Year

Yes, folks, it has finally happened. David Curry has finally created his blog. It brought a tear to my eye that it is finally up and that, yes indeed, peer pressure has worked. Check out his blog at www.davidschronicles.blogspot.com.
Speaking of David Curry, I must say that my most hardy Thanksgiving-vacation laugh came when his response to a meal that combined duck, turkey, and chicken (duckturkian) was that it sounded "foul" to him. Catching the accidental pun, I have to give mad props to DC for giving me this belly laugh inspired by unintended comedy (my favorite kind of laugh, by the way).
Anyway, it was sort of not fun getting back into the WI life today. I spent $200 and three hours waiting for my car to be fixed after the service light came on on my way to my Not Fun job this morning. At least all my placemats were on the table when I got home.
Jeff isn't feeling well tonight, but, after he gets a nice, Nyquil-induced rest, I plan on showing him the ropes on this whole Blog thang. Until then, peace from the Midwest.

Back in the Midwest

The Usual Suspects Posted by Hello
Well, Jeff and I arrived back in Madison tonight, just before 8:00 pm Central Time. We arrived back at the homestead to find our new dining room table cleared of its contents - placemats, basket full of napkins, etc. It didn't take long to realize who the perpetrators were.
Anyway, we had a great time back home in Rochester. It's back to the grind tomorrow. Peace out...more to come later.

Post-Thanksgiving Bliss

Well, here we are basking in the after-glow of gluttony on a snowy day after Turkey Day in Upstate New York with our families. We spent Wednesday night hanging with the crew in Rochester. We had a great time with Ryan, Makiko, Karen, Christa, and David. While some of the night was spent discussing politics and why so many women are having C-Sections these days, we did manage to have some non-nerdy conversations, too.
Thankgiving was spent with the Simpson family for lunch (absolutely delicious) and the Leuze/DeBadts family for dinner (double yum). While we stuffed ourselves with two turkey dinners, the real joy came from seeing our families and spending our holiday with them. We hope you all had the same opportunity. Take care and we'll post again soon!

Our First Post...The Beginning of an Era

Well, thanks to the inspiration created by Ryan and Makiko's blog, I am making myself so late for work by starting a blog for Jeff and I. Here, everyone can check out our exciting lives here in America's Dairyland. You will all be able to witness how we live day to day in the midwest and gain insight to all things Wisconsin.
All I ask from any readers of this blog is that they:
  • Forgive my lack of computer knowledge and creativity.
  • Understand that we live in WISCONSIN...ranked number 49th in the country (only ahead of Kansas) in the Most Exciting State in America Listing in the May 2004 issue of "America" magazine. Hey, dairy products, football, and bratwursts are WAY more exciting than tornados, corn, and...what else do they have in Kansas? Go Packers!
  • Know that our hearts still belong to New York State.

So, enjoy what is sure to be an action-packed blog. Thanks to Ryan and Makiko for the inspiration. Your blog rocks! We would have thanked David Curry, too, but, dude, what's up with your blog? (That sounds kind of dirty, doesn't it?)

Peace from the Midwest.
